Chapter 24

TATIANA

The last two weeks have been a rollercoaster of businesses, paperwork, watching any meetings the town council holds, and giving my opinion on how to settle matters that town members bring forward. On top of that, the lessons with Drake during the evening and weekends, there has been no time for any kind of fun.

I’ve spoken to Lyle twice on the phone and it’s been nice keeping in touch with him. Poppa Lykos gave me a phone and told me to enjoy my friends and that he’s sure I’d make more as I got known in town and other packs.

I know we have a mate, but I don’t know where he is.

‘What?’ Ebony takes me by surprise with this comment, as she’s not spoken about mates before.

Mate, not here. I keep getting his scent, but only lightly. I cannot pinpoint where it’s coming from as it goes away.

‘Well, I’m not sure I want a mate or need one. You know I’m not confident with male shifters.’

You will love mate. He’s a good mate. We’ll find him, eventually.

I just needed a little time to recuperate.

My birthday is coming up and I’m looking forward to it as I invited Brod and his parents, plus Lyle and Chief Glen. They all said they’d come, but we’ll have to see because things always have a way of going wrong around me.

Downstairs I make myself a smoothie, quickly drinking it and heading outside where Momma Akela has made a start on weeding the first row of vegetables.

“Morning Momma.”

“Morning Tati. You look brighter this morning.”

“Yeah. I feel better, actually. I was so tired when I came back from the Spirit Walker Pack that it’s taken me a while to feel fully energized.”

Momma Akela looks over at me and smiles. “You had a lot happen in a relatively short space of time, and Drake put you through a lot, which I think took it out of you. Is Ebony coping alright?”

“Yes, Ebony is fine. She talks to me all the time now and I love feeling her in the back of my mind. She speaks to some of the other wolves, too.”

“What? My goodness, she has to be strong if she can do that. Usually, that happens when you are related or from the same pack.”

I grin broadly and proudly. “She is strong, and she loves talking to others. I bet they don’t have a choice either.”

Giggling, I hear Ebony speak. You’ve got a nerve. I enjoy talking to the others and if we have a pack,
